Recently I’ve noticed a trend towards taking web apps and integrated them more fully into the desktop environment so they act more like normal locally-installed software. (Which seems to defeat the purpose of using web apps? But I digress.) This week’s episode is an overview of three major pieces of that trend: the $200 Walmart PC (which runs Linux!), Mozilla Prism, and Google Gears.

I just started playing with Prism actually. It looks like it might be a real valuable tool! I can’t think of how many of my peers keep Firefox open just for Gmail (myself included)! Prism is a great, light-weight alternative.

Great to hear from you! I admit I haven’t used Prism much myself, as I always have several sites open and prefer to organize them using Single Window Mode (one window, a bajillion tabs, mua-ha-ha). I’d love to hear whether it becomes a must-have app for you, though. Maybe one of these days I’ll learn to like Prism, and you’ll learn to like Macs?
